In nigerian culture, this is trait that is frown upon. Growing up as a child I always wanted to fall in love get married then have children. Life does not always go to plan. Life can sometimes go in another direction. People will always find a reason to judge and ridicule you. That's ok because at the end of the day we only have one life to live.
After graduating a few months later I had found out that I was pregnant. My biggest worry was telling my family because especially on my Nigerian side its classified as a woman embarrassing their family. I spoke with my partner in regards to our options he said he thought it was best that we keep our child and figure out the rest.
My mum came to visit, I was nervous because I didn't have the guts to tell her and if you are familiar with Caribbean mums they are super scary. Weeks went on and my mum began to ringing me telling me that she keep seeing fish in her dream.
So if you are not aware when a parents says they see fish in their dreams they are indicating that someone within the family may be pregnant. On the phone my heart dropped, it was time to tell the truth. "Mum, im pregnant" there was silence and then she responded "you have 24 hours to tell your dad" then she hung up.
I paced up and down my flat for about 2 hours my mum sent another text "have you told him yet" I started to sweat and my heart started racing. I got the courage and rang my dad, every moment the phone rang I was praying that he didn't pick up. It's my dad course is picked up, I started crying dad im really sorry but I'm pregnant. My dad responded "don't cry to me cry on your man" I could hear the disappointment and the shame in my dads voice.
My partners parents were the next set to call. I waited for months, my partner refused to tell them. I was running out of time. So I texted his mum stating that your son had something to say, she asked "my dear hint to me" I sent her emoji's of an ambulance, a baby and an emergency sign. I have no idea what she said to my other half but within 7 days of hearing the news there was radio silence. On the 8th day I received a call from my father in law and mother in law that they would be coming to the UK.
S*** just got real......
